The University of Dundee has said it is in talks to launch joint Law and Business programmes with China’s Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL).

The Chongqing-based university was founded in 1950, becoming the first institution of higher politics and law established under the People’s Republic of China, and has a large number of international exchange and co-operation programmes, including a long-standing joint programme with Coventry Law School.

The University of Dundee already has strong links with China, operating joint educational programmes/institutes with three top Chinese universities – Central South University (CSU), Wuhan University and Northeastern University (NEU).

Dundee has articulation arrangements with dozens of Chinese universities, including an existing arrangement with SWUPL.

Principal Nigel Seaton last month told The Courier: “There are modest opportunities to increase income from teaching internationally – that is to say, teaching international students on campus but also through partnerships, notably in China.”

A spokesperson for the University of Dundee told Scotland China Brief: “We are in discussions about joint Law and Business programmes with SWUPL, a highly ranked and internationally recognised centre for teaching and research in Law.”

They added that any agreement between the universities would be subject to “further due diligence as to the suitability of the partner”.
